A new composition for choir, which is based on the Biblical story of Elijah on the Horeb (1 Kings 19) and interspersed with a quote from Meister Eckhart, sung in ostinato. Towards the end, the word “God” disappears, and, steadily, the ostinato breaks down to the words “Nothing … as stillness”. This is inspired by some Jewish and other mystical traditions that avoid giving names to ‘God’, as such names tend to reduce and limit God to semantic/linguistic categories.
For choir (SATB div.).
