Videntes stellam

Introit or anthem, suitable for the Christmas season (Advent to Epiphany), especially for Epiphany. The text is taken from a Matin Responsory for Epiphany. Performers can choose two divide their choir into two choirs in different locations in the church. The repeated sections marked ‘sotto voce / lontano’ can then be sung by the choir standing further away.

Translation:

Seeing the star, the magi rejoiced with great joy;

and entering the house,
they found the boy, with Mary, His mother,
and fell down and worshipped Him.

And having opened their treasures, they offered Him gifts:
gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

Verse: The star that the wise men saw in the East went
before them until it came to where the Child was.

Glory be to the Father and Son and Holy Ghost,
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen.

  1. Dag Henk, in de tekst schrijf je dat de anthem afkomstig is van een Matin Responsory. Moet dat niet Latin zijn? Of gaat het hier om een matineus werk?
